The UK transmission dates for the last three of the 2009 specials have been confirmed.

The Waters Of Mars, the next story, is to air in the UK on the 15th of November. John Simm, who is slated to reprise his role as the Master for the last two specials, confirmed in a recent radio interview that the final specials will air on Christmas Day and New Year's Day respectively.

The air dates for The Waters Of Mars outside the United Kingdom have also been announced. The special is set to air in the US on December 19th on BBC America. It is being "fast-tracked" to Australia, airing only 16 days after the UK transmission on the 6th of December on ABC1.

The Blue Peter official website has today officially launched the TARDIS console design competition.

The competition is to design a version of the TARDIS console which will appear in one of the episodes of series 5. Though apparently temporary, the website confirms that the console will indeed appear in the Doctor's TARDIS.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one Blue Peter viewer to design a Tardis console for the Doctor to use. The winning design will be made and seen in an episode of the next series starring the brand new Doctor – Matt Smith!" the website says.

Not only will Matt Smith be using the TARDIS console, but he will also be selecting the winning entry from the panel-selected winners of each age bracket.

"Now, the Doctor himself - the brand new Doctor - will get to pick the ultimate winner," said Blue Peter Host Andy Akinwolere in a video accompanying the announcement.

The three finalists will be chosen from the 6-7, 8-10, and 11-12 age brackets and will all be given the chance to visit the set and meet members of cast and crew - including Matt Smith.

The winner will spend time with Doctor Who Production Designer, Edward Thomas, as the winning entry is developed and built, and will receive a framed copy of their design signed by Matt Smith.

The competition runs until the 2nd of November, and is open to all UK residents aged 6 to 12.

The new logo has been revealed! The new logo returns to the Classic series motif, having the words vertically rather than horizontally adjacent.

The font used is much more futuristic than any other the previous logos, but is still reminiscent of the classic series fonts.

The final and most drastic change is the initials "DW" in a square font combined to form an image of the TARDIS, complete with a lantern in the same angular drawing style.

This is the first time such a motif has been used in the logo; it is the first time the logo has been anything more then the words "Doctor Who".

While a logo change this drastic was rather unexpected, it fits in perfectly well with the attempted revamp of the show; namely, moving forward with fresh content while returning to the roots of the classic series.

An announcement tonight on the Official Doctor Who News Page has revealed that a new logo for the show is soon to be unveiled.

According the the site, the new logo will be revealed on October 6th at 8am BST (Australia: 6pm AEST). The logo change appears to be yet another step toward a complete revamp of the show; the reason given for the change is apparently to keep the show fresh.

"On one level, the logo is the iconic image that represents Doctor Who. But it's much more than that - it becomes an icon that is recognised from Cardiff to California, an emblem of excitement, humour, scary monsters, brave companions and the Doctor! And so the new logo must be stylish, fresh, distinctive and bold. Must be. And will be."

As was the case during the Classic Series, such a change was inevitable. There have been ten logos so far in the series - essentially one for each Doctor.

With the announcement, the BBC have released a clip compiling all ten official logos (not available to those outside the UK) used on television.
__________________________________________________________________

NB: I will update this post with a picture of the new logo as soon as possible.

UK fans of Doctor Who will soon be given the chance to design their own TARDIS console to be featured in the new series.

According to the BBC's Press Office, a competition will be launched on the 7th of October allowing viewers to submit their ideas for a new-look TARDIS control room. The winning entry will apparently feature in the new series.

It is not yet known however, how the winning design will be featured. It's not likely that it will feature as the Doctor's TARDIS; filming has already begun on the new series. However, it has already been reported that David Tennant's final story, The End Of Time, will feature at least two Time Lords other than the Doctor, either of whom may return in series 5 using the new TARDIS.

The competition will be run by Blue Peter, the BBC's children's variety show. Blue Peter has had a long-running affiliation with Doctor Who since early in the classic series.

Blue Peter previously ran a competition for the 2nd series in 2006 for viewers to design a new creature for the show. The winning entry was the Abzorbaloff, who featured in Love and Monsters, and was designed by 9-year-old William Grantham.

25 August 2009 @ 11:00 pm
Series five of Doctor Who, Matt Smith's first series playing the Doctor, began production on July 20th of this year.

Mr. Smith joined new companion Amy Pond, played by Miss Karen Gillan, who appeared in 2008's The Fires Of Pompeii, on set at Southerndown Beach in Wales to begin filming.

Joining them was Steven Moffat who steps in to fill the gap left by Russel T. Davies, whose departure is to coincide with David Tennant's. Moffat will take the reins as Showrunner, Lead Writer, and Excutive Producer.

But it's not just the case of out-with-the-old, in-with-the-new; the TARDIS has received a reverse-makeover of sorts. A slick coat of paint, new windows, and a St. John's Ambulance insignia give us a nostalgic flashback to the days of the first three Doctors.

Speaking of (literally) golden oldies, fans have snapped photos of an old friend on set. Alex Kingston, who played Professor River Song in the series four two-parter Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, will reprise her role, sporting a new crop of golden hair, presumably to make her look younger for continuity's sake.

As mentioned previously, the filming began on Southerndown Beach in Wales, significant as the very location used for Dalig Ulv Stranden, aka Bad Wolf Bay, in series' two and four. However, it seems to be a different, much rockier area of the beach, which raises the question of whether or not the Bay will be a focal point for the new series, as the beach may be being used simply for convenience.

From what we've seen so far, the show is in for a major reboot to follow the Tenth Doctor's upcoming swan song in the 2009 Christmas specials. The two-part story will serve as a finale to the 2009 series of specials and will pave the way for the Smith Era. What this era will yield will remain unknown until closer to the air date, but rest assured, Moffat and Smith will be bringing an unparalleled burst of fresh energy that will have nowhere to go but up.

So I've decided to challenge myself and my apathetic ways by seeing if I can handle operating a Doctor Who news blog.

I want to see how sharp I am journalistically, I want to see how well I can scoop Doctor Who news, and I want to see how well I can write.

So! Over the next few days I'll be starting to gather the usual sources for Whovian rumours and leaks (UK-based, obviously) so that I can get current-ish news breaks. I don't want to rely on sources such as the Gallifrey News Base for my information. Granted, I'll be a little late thanks to timezones and such, but timeliness is not my major priority. My major priority is the content itself - gathering information and reporting the news on my own.

I will keep this blog as up-to-date as being in Australia will allow, but don't expect me to be being cited by anyone anytime soon. If anything, the stuff I post here will only be read by my Whovian friends from back home who already get their Doctor Who news from me anyway.

The first order of business, however, is to get the basics out of the way.

1. Favourite Doctor: 5th.
2. Favourite Companion: Miss Donna Noble.
3. Favourite NuWho Story: Blink.
4. Favourite Classic-Era Story: The Five Doctors.
5. Favourite Enemy: I don't want to say the Daleks, but I'm afraid I have to.

So, other than that, look forward to amateur reporting and fanboy gushing over the content of said reporting.

I just had a random and AWESOME idea. I'm posting my entire DVD collection here, and will link to it whenever I can't decide on a DVD to watch. My IRC buddies can choose for me!

They are in no particular order as my DVD case is disorganised.

Most of the TV shows I own on DVD are multi-disc, so specify a disc (even if it's at random) if you think I should watch a show.

So, I said I'd post some of my dreams here, and last Friday, I woke up and immediately wrote down the contents of a particularly interesting dream. So without further ado, I present to you: Dylan's Adventures With Mystery Friend on Volcano Sky-sparkle Island!

8D

The first thing I can remember is being in school; high school I'm fairly sure, except we were in a very tropical locale. Everyone was saying goodbyes and getting ready to leave, so I'm guessing it was the end of the 12th grade. I can remember Ella leaving on a boat (that was docked at a sort of mini-port at one of the school gates), and I was saying goodbye to her, Amy and Stacey. My brother pulled up (in a van of all things) and I gave him his wallet, which I had apparently nicked.

I'm a little hazy from there, I remember flashes of a cold, sterile, clinical building and a sense of foreboding. The next thing I remember is being on a speedboat, heading towards an island with someone familiar to me, though I never saw who it was.

The island was quite volcanic, and was split into 2 sections by a small (about 2.5 ft wide) river of lava. The eastern section was flat, and was basically a bare beach with dozens of potholes full of lava. The  other half of the island was mountainous, with streams of lava pouring from dykes along the side of the main volcano. This half of the island was named after Pompeii, and our objective or target or reason for being there or whatever was at or in the mouth of the volcano.

On our approach to the island, I noticed four intensely bright lights suspended on some invisible parabola above the island. The lights were tiny pinpricks, and sparkled a whitish-purple like the stars behind them, but were observably closer to the ground, hovering only a few hundred feet over the island.

We reached the island, and I looked around observing what I described about the island before. I noticed that the whole island had a dull dreary light to it, one that you see in rooms lit by fluorescent lights. Noticing how dull the lighting was, I looked up at the four lights from the beach, and was instantly almost blinded, as if I were staring into the midday sun.

We (me and the unseen friend) explored the flat section of the island first, due to my apprehension of exploring a volcano named Pompeii. After concluding that there was nothing to be found, we set off for the western half. We therefore had to jump over the river of lava, and I apparently suck at jumping in my dreams. My left foot landed in the lava, which was no more dangerous than hot water, a fact which I registered as strange, even in my dream state.

It is when we begin our approach to the main volcano that I begin to lose track of the dream. I briefly remember somehow being amazingly high above the island (the four lights now gone, the island was lit only by the glowing lava) and this feeling of intense joy looking down upon it. For some reason, thinking back on the dream, I can't help somehow thinking of The Wild Thornberries, and I have my suspicions that I have forgotten some element of the show that was present somewhere in my dream.

So there you go, a tiny little insight into my madness. Like I said, I scrambled for a pen and paper as soon as I woke up on Friday and instantly began to write, before I could lose too much, and I guess it worked.

05 February 2009 @ 12:33 am

For the past 2 months or so I have been sad and angsty in general. Happy-go-lucky and chipper, but for the past two months there were some things that were really shaking me up.

BUT NOW I'M HAPPY AS A THING THAT IS THE PURE EMBODIMENT OF JOY.

I am moving out of home in a very short time, and to say the least I've been terrified.

I didn't have a licence, my university application was on shaky ground, and I was generally in a horrible, scared, angry, guilty mood whenever my mind wandered to it. I'd feel sick and disgusted with how lazy I thought I was being.

On Monday, I got my licence. I passed my test and I'm confident on the road.

Tonight, I got online and checked my university application, and I'm smack-dab in the middle of my best-case scenario and I am OVER the moon!

The university is helping me find a place to live, I'm enrolling tomorrow, and things are looking up, up, UP!

I am so happy right now I cannot describe it. People use the phrase "Like a weight's been lifted off my shoulders", but right now, it feels like a huge iron ball has disappeared from the pit of my stomach.

Sorry for the annoyingly chipper post, but I got in this mood 2 hours ago and I haven't stopped smiling since.

4. Profit!

Well, I've just made an LJ account, after the constant barrage of "Lurking in the slash comms does NOT count as using LiveJournal!" from my friend.

So, basically, this is me:

This is Dylan. He is wearing a bubble-wrap hat. Because he is awesome. Name: Dylan "Oh shit don't make eye contact and maybe he won't talk to us" Morris

Age: 6 days south of 18.

Location: Australialand.

Species: *sigh* Human

Gender: Male

Orientation: FABULOUS

I like the think I'm fairly sane, despite that one night 2 weeks ago I almost attempted home-surgery on my toe due to lack of sleep. The only thing that gives me pause for thought about my mind is my dreams. They are rather fucked up. They range from streaming cross-over fanfics (the Doctor Who/MGS4 crossover deserves an honorable mention) all the way to scenes so abstract they could be Beatles music videos re-enacted by rainbow turtles.

I'll probably end up posting some pretty weird shit. I'll post some of my weirder dreams, everyday stuff, lots of angst, maybe some random drawings, and some of my works once I start writing again.

Morris, out.

(Also, if was into mpreg, I'd want to have John Barrowman's illegitimate lovechild.)
